A Newborn Session with a Big Brother as the Star of the Show!

It’s no secret toddlers have energy — I mean, a lot of energy. And while a newborn session is technically about the newest addition to the family, sometimes it’s the toddler who steals the show.

It happens naturally. That unstoppable get-up-and-go attitude that carries them from one side of the room to the other in half a second flat. The curiosity about the strange lady and her camera in their home. The endless need for snacks. I absolutely stay focused on baby, but it’s hard not to give a little attention to the adorable toddler running circles around us.

I know it can feel stressful to have all of that going on during your session. The energy, the flow, the stops and starts — it feels nothing like your first newborn session. But I promise, every bit of it is completely normal. I’ve photographed hundreds of newborns, and I’m also a mom to two boys myself. I know a thing or two about letting kids burn off energy, pausing for snacks, and answering the same question six times in a row.

This session was my second time with this family, and while I remembered their first session being beautiful — those photos were displayed all through their home — I had somehow forgotten just how genuinely kind these two parents are. That warmth set the tone for everything. The session flowed easily, with small breaks for their two-year-old and unhurried pauses whenever baby sister needed them.

At the end of the day, we walked away with something truly special — a collection of images that capture this exact moment in time for their growing family. The sleepy newborn snuggles, the toddler’s wide-eyed wonder, and every quiet moment in between. I am so excited to share this little sneak peek and I cannot wait for this family to see their full gallery. These are the kind of images that will live on their walls, fill their albums, and remind them — years from now — just how sweet this season really was.
