Love, Laughter, and Newborn Snuggles: A Pittsburgh Lifestyle Session

Writer's picture: Allison PayneAllison Payne

There’s nothing quite like the magic of a newborn session in the comfort of home. In today's post, I am sharing a recent in-home lifestyle newborn session here in Pittsburgh, where I had the privilege of documenting the sweet moments of a family’s newest addition. Natural light, soft blankets, and precious interactions created a timeless atmosphere that truly captured the essence of this new chapter. If you’ve ever wondered what a lifestyle newborn session looks like in a real home—complete with laughter, snuggles, and those fleeting first moments—this post is for you. Let’s dive into the beauty and simplicity of capturing newborn memories even when baby isn't quite into their session!

It happens often where I get a last-minute request for a newborn session. Because I love these sessions so much, I rarely turn them away! This one happened to be a referral from another client which I am always so thrilled to get and appreciate every single one of my families that take a minute to share my information!

We started out with some sweet snuggly moments with mom and baby in the parents' room. The little squish was so warm and cozy with him mama, which made for a beautiful start to the session. We quickly realized that this little guy was only in the mood to be held and also possibly on a cluster feeding day! If you have kiddos of your own, you know that these days can be tough and as a mom, you are generally the go-to person. I also know that when it is picture day it can be a little stressful wondering if you will end up with any of those adorable newborn photos' that you were dreaming of.

I am here to tell you, YES! Just because it may take a little more work and we may have to tweak ideas that I usually go with, we can absolutely capture those beautiful moments. We may have to take a few more breaks for feedings or take a little longer to rock a baby to get them to settle (fun fact; I am always a big fan of rocking your little one to sleep!) but in the end we will get those shots!

Once we had worked our way through the lifestyle portion of the session, we got baby settled and ready for his studio style wrapped images. Little guy was still just wanting to have the comfort of mom, so we did everything in 30 second spurts. Mom rocked/nursed, set the baby in the prop and got as many shots as possible and then started over. This happens and thank goodness the family was such good sports because we definitely came away with some adorable images.

My hope is that the little guy gave his parents a good nap later that day and until I can get their full gallery together, here is a sneak peek of just a few of my favorites!
